MY BIRTHDAY BUS JOURNEY TO DEIÀ, MALLORCA

I had heard of the bohemian atmosphere that exists in the mountain village of Deià, so decided to see for myself. The bus ride from the main station in Palma passing through the picturesque village of Valldemossa was nothing less than lovely traveling through the rolling countryside.
Arriving in Deià the bus stopped in front of the now closed for the season La Residencia Hotel, a pity!, was hoping to see where the visiting celebrities sipped their cava.
Deià hidden in the northern corner of Mallorca nestled among the Tramuntana mountains and close to the Mediterranean Sea, has long been a place that attracted the artistic and literary set.
I had been told of this lovely restaurant down below the village in a small bay just a thirty minute walk away. A nice walk it was, through tall trees and a rocky path I eventually arrived at the crystal clear waters of the bay below. Unfortunately the restaurant was also closed for the season, but not to worry my little backup picnic of tomato’s, crunchy farm bread and sparkling water was just about a perfect alternative.
Wild and beautiful it is the coast line. The walk back to Deià village passes charming houses and gardens. Fruit trees along the way such as orange, lemon, olive and fig. These fruits are included on the menu billboards of the several restaurants I passed while walking the village.
Being here late in the year did not take away the obvious charm and delight that Deià has to offer. Sitting by the bus stop waiting for the four o’clock back to Palma and thinking a nice birthday so far!
